Sportsmen’s Show described as a ‘wonder weekend;’ attendance figures, mixed

“It was a busy and active weekend,” said Mark Schuler, Presque Isle County Tourism Council events coordinator, of the ninth annual Sportsmen’s Show, which was conducted last weekend at the Onaway High School. Kammie Dennis, PI Tourism Council executive director, said it was a “wonderful weekend. What makes it work every year is the quality of vendors and the participation of a whole lot of people who make it happen.”

Attendance figures equaled totals on Friday and Sunday of a year ago, but were down by 25 percent on Saturday. “We are thinking and hoping it was the bad weather,” said Dennis. “We had some folks who came in from the Gaylord area, saying how bad it was.

“You take it personally. You look at the overall picture and you talk to folks who attend other shows and you know they are down as well. I would hate to say it’s the economy, but maybe it is.” Plans are already underway for next year’s show.
