Brothers marry first cousins from another family who give birth to twins six months apart

Emma Budnick, the daughter of Jason and Paula Budnick, was the first to arrive into the world at 9:16 p.m. Alexis Budnick followed her seven minutes later. On December 21, a pair of Christmas babies were delivered to the couple, which doubled the Posen family. The Budnick clan expanded by two more, six months later, when Jason’s brother Jeremy and his wife Rissa, also of Posen, gave birth to twin boys, Kelton and Cadyn. Kelton, who was delivered naturally, June 28 at 11:14 p.m., had to wait 32 minutes until his brother joined him, because of complications with the delivery. Doctors had to perform a caesarean section. Strangely enough, the twins almost had separate birthdays, as Cadyn was born 14 minutes before midnight.

IT WOULD have just added more confusion to what sometimes can be an already confusing situation. It’s not every day that two brothers marry two first cousins, and both have twins less than seven months apart. Rissa said it leaves some people scratching their head. “They are like, ‘what?’ ” Some folks get it all mixed up and believe Rissa and Paula resemble each other and are sisters. They’re not. Rissa’s parents are Don and Peggy Werth, while Paula’s are Randy and Karen Werth, all of Alpena. The grandparents of all four children are Dennis A. and Blanche Budnick of Posen.

ONE HAS to watch where they’re walking when all four children are playing on the floor, because there are a lot of fingers and toes to step on, and that includes Jensen, two, son of Jeremy and Rissa. So, there are five kids running around when the couples visit each other. And what does one do when all four babies are crying at one time? Rissa said “there are moments” when she has watched all four and the crying has set her on edge, but she used to operate a daycare facility in Posen and is used to the noise. Both couples say it’s not too often all four become difficult to handle at once.

JEREMY WAS “surprised” when he learned he’d be the father of twins

, but it’s “been all right.” “It’s all been fun,” Jason said, blowing on the stomach of one of his daughters to make her laugh. He said they don’t like wearing clothes and the daughter he dressed for the picture for The Advance started to fuss as he put an outfit on her. Jeremy said the hardest part of raising the twin boys, who are celebrating their four-month birthday today, is “Getting up and feeding them at night. I’m not used to it.” There can be some tough nights when one baby will wake up the other, which actually might be considered a blessing.

If one sleeps through the crying and wakes up later, it makes for a longer night for the puffy-eyed parents. Both couples seem to be handling the situation with amazing resilience. It’ll create interesting situations when both sets of twins get older and enter kindergarten at the same time. There might be a few Tylenol-moments for the teacher.
