Sheriff’s report

A 23-year-old Millersburg man was taken into custody early Saturday in Case Township for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. While on routine patrol in the village of Millersburg, officers observed a driver acting in a suspicious manner. The driver had parked his vehicle in a private drive and shut off his headlights. A traffic stop was conducted, and as officers approached the vehicle, they smelled alcohol on the driver. He admitted to drinking four beers and attempting to hide his vehicle by cutting the lights. The individual failed a field sobriety test and was lodged in the Presque Isle County jail.

Last Thursday at 10:26 p.m., officers responded to a call of an altercation between and a male and a female in the Millersburg area. After questioning the subjects, deputies learned the 49-year-old woman had been drinking and during the course of an argument, she ended up throwing a plate of spaghetti at the man. She was arrested and booked at the county jail for domestic violence.

A 39-year-old Cheboygan man was treated and released at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital after a two-vehicle accident September 15 in Ocqueoc Township. According to the accident report, Richard Michael Bongard of Cheboygan was attempting to pass a vehicle in the 2001 Ford Escape he was driving on Ocqueoc Road, but Julie Ann Kortman, 37, of Mill

ersburg was attempting to make a left turn into a private drive in a 1994 Ford van. Bongard told officers he thought the driver was leaving the road on the right.

As Bongard went to pass Kortman, he had to take corrective measures because he noticed the vehicle turning into his path. Bongard ended up rear-ending Kortman’s vehicle, forcing it to overturn once. She received minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. Both vehicles were not driveable. The air bag deployed in the Bongard vehicle and both drivers were wearing their safety belts. No citations were issued.

The Michigan Department of Transportation noticed six road construction signs missing September 14 as crews were just starting their workday. The signs and stands were on US-23-N with the larcenies occurring sometime between September 9 and 13. The value of the signs has been placed at $600.
