Basketball Hurons stay undefeated

The Huron varsity basketball team moved to 3-0 with a 41-27 win over Boyne City last Thursday. A low scoring first quarter saw the Ramblers edge out to a 5-3 lead. Rogers City came back to lead 18-14 at halftime and 26-21 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Hurons got things rolling on both ends, limiting the Ramblers’ shots while connecting for 15 points in the frame to seal the win. Ashley Fleming led all scorers with 25 points, 11 of those coming in the fourth quarter. She added 16 rebounds.

Tiffiny Krueger added six points. Sara Dove had five assists and three steals while Dana Fairbanks grabbed six rebounds. The Huron defense limited the Ramblers to 18-of-44 from the field. The Hurons were off Tuesday. No results were available from the JV contest. Rogers City has two games in the U.P. this week, traveling to Newberry tonight (Thursday) and to St. Ignace Tuesday.

The team hosts Alcona September 16. Tonight’s game will be broadcast on WVXA 96.7 FM with Advance managing editor Pete Jakey handling the play-by-play.
