Miss Posen contestants ready for Friday evening pageant
Five young women vying for the title of Miss Posen have been practicing nonstop for Friday’s pageant, set at 7:30 p.m. in the Posen High School gym. All will seek to follow Miss Posen 2003, Kyrie Kuffel, who will relinquish her crown. Kuffel, the daughter of Larry and Pam Kuffel and a 2004 PHS graduate, plans to attend Alpena Community College in the fall and study interior design. She also will provide some of the evening’s special entertainment, singing the JoDee Messina country song, “Alright.” Other entertainers include Alpena co-Junior Miss winners Jessica Gartner and Kaylee Darga. Darga, whose mother, Lois Lewandowski Darga, is a former Miss Posen, will perform a lively dance number, while Gartner will present a piano solo.
THIS YEAR’S contestants include Kendra Krajniak, Brittany Romel, Courtney Romel, Dorothy Romel, Marie Romel, and Amanda Swan. Because the pageant is on Friday the 13th, the opening number will be performed to the Michael Jackson song, “Thriller.” Other than the name of the song, pageant officials don’t want to reveal what will be in the dance routine, which traditionally opens the show.

POSEN, A VILLAGE of about 250, plays host to the festival every year on the weekend that follows Labor Day. The Posen Chamber of Commerce organizes the event, with workers being made up of volunteers and relatives. Just about the whole town pitches in to make the festival a success. People come from all over the country to take in the activities which include entertaining polka and country western music, a bump and run demolition race, parade, carnival rides, a flea market, and authentic Polish food.
