Girls take second in state; boys cap great season at D-4 semifinals

The Huron girls softball team returned from Battle Creek with the Division IV Runner-up trophy after losing to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes 12-0 in the championship game Saturday. On Friday, Ashley Fleming’s three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning gave the Huron girls’ softball team the chance to place for the MHSAA Divions IV title. Her blow in Friday’s seminfinal game against Vandercook Lake send the Hurons to the title game for the second time in four years.

The boys team season ended Friday with a heart-breaking 2-1 loss to Bay City All Saints in the semifinal. Down to their last out, the Cougars extended their season with a two-run triple.
