Lake Huron’s sunrise side home to hometown newspaper operation

Presque Isle Newspapers, publishes the Presque Isle County Advance  from its offices in Rogers City and Onaway, Michigan. The Advance, which merged with the Onaway Outlook April, 2015, is a weekly newspaper serving Presque Isle County, Michigan, USA. We are located on Lake Huron, about 50 miles south of the Mackinac Bridge. We cover the entire county, which includes the school districts from Rogers City, Onaway and Posen.

We are concerned with our mission of providing the best possible coverage of local news. Community newspapers, such as ours, must concentrate on the job of serving our residents by producing the local news they need and want.

That has been the mission since this newspaper was founded in 1878 and remains so today. This Web site is an extension of that mission.

The Advance has been the trusted voice for local news coverage since 1878.

Following a February 12, 2006 fire which destroyed our historic building in Rogers City, we were forced to move to a temporary office hosted by J&L Camera and Electronics. Due to great efforts from the staff and a wonderfully supportive community, we didn’t miss an issue, as we went to press three days after the fire and continued publishing each week after that. In December 2006 we moved into our new office at the corner of Third and Erie Streets in Rogers City, constructed by general contractor Jerry Fleming.
